Shirlal

Shirlal is a small village situated below the Sahyadri Hills (Western Ghats) in the Coastal region of Karnataka State of India. The village is situated in the picturesque environment of the Western Ghats and is well known for its Agricultural resources.

Shirlal Jain Temple

With an approximation of 100 Jain families sorrounding the area of Shirlal, Andaru and Mundli villages who worship Shirlal Jain temple Ananthanatha Swamy as their main diety and Padmavati Devi as their godess for over 300 years.

With a history of 300 years the Shirlal Basadi (Jain Temple) was renovated in the year 1949 under the leadership of Late Shri. R. Siddappa Hegde and his spouse Late Smt. Laxmimathi Amma with the support of the Jain community.

Sorrounded by serene beauty of nature this holy place is visited by many noble souls and in the year of 1950 when Paramapoojya 108 Vishwanandi Muni Maharaj performed Chaturmasa for about 4 months in this place the awareness about Jainism and its values among the Jain Community doublefolded.

From the year 2000 the temple evolved into a new phase of development under the leadership and interests of Shirlal Rathnavarma Poovani. The renovation of the Jinamandira, construction of a spacious Gopura were done.

A community hall with a capacity of 750 members and a dining hall was constructed in the year 2003. Also a house for the Purohit was built.

A plantation of 5 acres of Areca, 7 acres of Rubber, 1 acre of Cashewnut and Coconut was added to the resources of the temple.

In the year 2004 Dhamasamprokshana (Opening ceremony after renovation) was held in the presence of Siddhanta Sagar Muni Maharaj, Karkala Lalitakirti Bhattaraka Swmiji and Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dhrmasthala.

In the year 2005 Acharya Viraga Sagar Muni Maharaj visited with his 50 Sadhu sangh.

In the year 2006 a Pallakki was donated by Shirlal Rathnavarma Poovani on his 48th Ananthanopi Udyapan.

In the year 2006 Poojya Sagar Muni Maharaj & Amita Sagar Muni Maharaj visited the temple.

In the year 2007 Paramapoojya Vardhamana Sagar Muni Maharaj visited this holy place and impressed by the uniqueness of this temple he named as Athishaya Shri Kshethra Shirlal.

In the year 2008 a Silver Chariot was donated by Shirlal Rathnavarma Poovani

In the year 2009 the foundation stone was laid for the installation of statues of Bharata, Bahubali and Adinatha Swamy.

In the year 2011 the three 12 feet statues of Bharata, Bahubali and Adinatha Swamy sculptured at Jaipur were brought and erected. These 3 statues in Shirlal together is a very unique feature of any Jain temple. The Mahamasthakabhisheka of these 3 statues is proposed in 2013.

In the year 2011 8 fully furnished guest rooms were constructed.
